Which type of greens should we grow and when?
Amongst all the hustle and bustle of home rearrangement and the excitement of Eid, one of the most charming activities is planting greens and nurturing their little sprouts until they grow beautifully and uniformly, giving us a chic and stylish greenery for Eid! However, deciding which greens to plant and when to plant them so that they grow in time for the Eid table without turning into a yellowish summer farm every year is always a challenge for us! Let’s see how many days each type of green needs to grow properly and reach the Eid table on time… We also have a few points about greens and potting soil:
Lentils need 15 days to grow and look beautiful and green and to grow to the right size. Place healthy and lively lentils next to the greens and arrange them so that the greens become lush as well.
Mung beans need 12 days to grow, and they should also be placed densely in the container. It is better for the lentil, mung bean, and wheat containers to have edges so that after the roots grow, the seeds do not come out of the container.
Wheat and barley need 10 days. But if the weather in your city is warm or it’s sunny and spring-like there, 7-8 days may be enough for them.
khakshir, in the longest case, does not take more than 2 or 3 days. It becomes green very quickly, and of course, its durability is not very high, but it is very beautiful.
If you want your Eid greens to grow properly, don’t treat them like a short-term volunteer! Cutting greens affects their growth and appearance. If the bottom of the container is flat, moisture reaches the seeds evenly, and the greens grow uniformly among them. So, don’t put them on a sloping surface.
If your city is still cold and there’s time for the trees to sprout, it’s better to give warm water to the greens to wake the seeds up from their sleep. Larger seeds like lentils, mung beans, and wheat should be soaked overnight to be fully ready to sprout by morning.
And the last point is: Don’t rush! Put each green at the right time, and remember that if there are 10 days left for the greens to grow by Eid, the sprouts are shining like Hollywood superstars, meaning their retirement day has come, and they can’t wait to sit on the Eid table anymore! So, don’t throw the greens earlier than scheduled.
Don’t forget to send us pictures of your greens!
