Our country is vast, and foods and customs may vary from city to city and village to village; however, Asheh (a type of Persian soup), Ajeel (mixed nuts and dried fruits), and Reshteh Polo (a traditional Persian rice dish) are among the foods consumed on Wednesday evenings. Jeweled rice, Ash-e Shish Andaz, Torshi Tareh (sour herb stew), and more are also cooked in different regions on this night.
It is said that for the Wednesday Feast, seven types of mixed nuts and dried fruits were chosen. For example, various types of pistachios, raisins, chickpeas, almonds, walnuts, apricot kernels, sunflower seeds, etc. Most of these nuts and dried fruits were products of family members’ hard work. Therefore, depending on the region and the type of agriculture and horticulture, the Wednesday Feast varied in each area.
