Uncle Nowruz on the way, and Aunt Frost eagerly awaiting

Once upon a time, there was a village woman named Aunt Frost who lived just outside the city gates. She would spread her large cotton quilt on the mountainside and wide plains, keeping watch eagerly. Whom was she watching for? Uncle Nowruz! Aunt Frost had a heart, not just one, but a hundred hearts, all in love with Uncle Nowruz. Even though she had never seen him, how could anyone not love someone who brings so much freshness and life with him?
A month ago, Aunt Frost had sent her messengers, Jack Frost and Winter’s Breath, to bring her fresh leaves, budding flowers, and blossoming blooms so she could sew a spring garment for Uncle Nowruz. She had cleaned the house, poured tea into golden-lipped cups, and prepared the Haft-Seen table in advance:

Greens for life

Samanu for blessings

Vinegar for immortality

Apples for health

Garlic for protection from illness

Sumac for patience

And Silver berry, a symbol of love

She had placed several coins for prosperity among the spread, along with a mirror, a candlestick, and flowers. Now, she sat on her old chair, and as every year, her eyes grew heavy. She told herself, “I’ll just close my eyes for a few minutes!” She shut her eyes, and in her imagination, only a few minutes had passed, but the weariness that tightens the seconds on the clock had taken over!
Time had passed, and the clock had moved forward significantly. Uncle Nowruz’s teacup was empty, and beside the tray on the table, there was a single flower branch, more beautiful and fragrant than any flower in the world. The scent of blossoms and greenery filled the house. Aunt Frost felt both joy and sorrow in her heart! She got up to leave, but Uncle Nowruz had already gone, and he hadn’t the heart to wake Aunt Frost. Where her feet had been on the plain, it was now full of sprouts and greenery. Full of life and freshness. Full of beauty! It seemed that it was time for Aunt Frost to gather her white quilt and put it away in the chest. Spring had arrived!
